Easter Fun Day at Potawatomi Inn

Pokagon State Park

Every year we make sure that we take the girls to a local Easter Egg Hunt. We have never gone to Pokagon to participate in their Easter Egg Hunt so when I heard that they were doing a big Easter Fun Day with an Egg Hunt, games, photos with the Easter Bunny and a Petting Zoo; I knew that the girls would really enjoy all of the activities, so we made plans to attend.

The Easter Festivities started at 1:00 p.m. and ran until 3:00 p.m. with the Easter Egg Hunts starting promptly at 2:00 p.m. We were told that we should get there early because typically there is a line of cars at the gate, so we arrived shortly after 1:00 p.m. Due to inclement weather, the entire event was held at the Inn in the large Lake James Room. When we arrived, the girls were each given two tickets so they could play a couple of Easter themed carnival games. Emi immediately spotted the chex mix and lemonade that was being served so she ran over to the table to grab a snack first.

Even though the Egg Hunts didn’t start until 2:00 p.m., there was an area set up ready to go for the first age group. We had some time to burn, so we got in line to visit with the Easter Bunny. MaKenzy was not quite sure about the Easter Bunny at first, but as soon as she saw Emi jump up on the bench next to him, MaKenzy followed. We were able to snap a couple wonderful pictures of the girls and the Easter Bunny.

After the photos, the girls could not contain their excitement about playing the carnival games for candy and prizes. They each were able to play two games and the game attendants were all so nice and helpful.

The last thing that we had to do before the Egg Hunt was visit the Petting Zoo! We all enjoyed petting the bunnies and the baby chicks. We couldn’t believe how well behaved the animals were, especially how the bunnies stayed in the baskets and didn’t jump out! In addition to the bunnies and the baby chicks, there was even a miniature pony and goats outside in a tent.

After we pried the girls away from the Petting Zoo, we prepared for the Easter Egg Hunt since MaKenzy was in the first group. You could just feel the excitement as everyone kept inching closer and closer to the grass edge. Everyone was eyeing the big eggs and trying to figure out which one they were going to go for first. Once the hunt started, MaKenzy wasn’t quite sure what to do since people were scurrying for each and every egg. She finally figured it out and was able to score a few eggs before they were all snatched up.

After the first egg hunt, park employees marked off the grassy area and dumped more eggs for the next age group. Emi would be in this group and she was so excited. Once they did the countdown and the free for all started, Emi literally jumped head first into the pile of children and quickly started picking up the eggs. She was having so much fun; she surprisingly stopped and looked at me with this huge smile on her face. You could just tell that she was having a great time. They had several other age groups after Emi’s group, but we had an Easter get together to attend so we had to leave.

Even though the weather wasn’t great, the event turned out absolutely wonderful with a lot of people in attendance. The girls had a fantastic time and it was a great way to start the Easter Weekend.
