Top Hiking Trails in Steuben County, Indiana

 

As the weather warms up, we’re all eager to get outside and soak up the sunshine. One great way to do this is to hike or bike the local trails in Steuben County. One of the most popular trails is the Steuben County Multipurpose Trail, which is a 7.4 mile asphalt trail. If you are looking for more trails, here are some options.

YMCA Hiking Trail

YMCA-Northcrest Park

This trail starts at the YMCA and then leads you over the Harcourt Bridge. Go past Walmart and ride or walk through a local housing development and Northcrest Park until you return to the YMCA parking lot. This trail is about 2.5 miles long and is great for a short hike.

Fremont Trail

Fremont Wild Wind Buffalo Farm Clear Lake

For this ride, start at the Meijer Bike Path Trailhead. Go through Wild Wind Buffalo Farm and around the circumference of Clear Lake. This trail starts in Angola and goes through Fremont, perfect for a long Saturday bike ride.

Hamilton Osprey Hiking Trail

Hamilton-Osprey Nest

For this trail, you’ll start south of the baseball diamond on Circle Hill Cemetery Rd and go through Commons Park, past Angola Middle School and High School, and around Hamilton Lake. This is a beautiful, medium length trail to follow.

Reddington Trail

Monument Plaza- Reddington Heights

Monument plaza is where this trail starts and goes through the town of Angola. It starts in the center of town and goes through local housing developments. This is a great downtown walk or bike ride.

Trine State Recreation Area Hiking Trail

The Rolling Oaks Trail

Located in the Trine State Recreation Area, this is a 2.5 mile trail of moderate difficulty, which runs from the parking area north of the Wild Turkey Shelter and loops through woodlands, along wetlands and over open meadows. This is a great weekend trail for nature lovers.

The Gentian Lake Trail

Also located in the Trine State Recreation Area, this is a quarter-mile moderate trail, which runs from the Swenson Lodge to the lakeshore. The bike trail connects the main gatehouse at Feather Valley Road with the welcome center and is a quarter-mile paved trail. This is an easy trail to walk in the evenings for some peaceful time outside.

Clearly, Steuben County has tons of trails for whatever kind of adventure you are looking for. Whether you want to take a short evening walk through town, or a long Saturday bike ride out in the woods, Steuben County has something for everyone.
