Then and Now

If you enjoy antiquing as much as I do, you’ll love the antique shops in Steuben County, Indiana. I’ll be visiting and sharing some of the finest antique treasures in our area. I’m starting with Then and Now Antiques Inc. located in downtown Angola. It features three floors of antiques, collectibles and accessories. The Then and Now Antiques store has more than 40 dealers located in a 30,000-square-foot building. There is something for everyone including furniture, clothing, glassware, porcelain pieces, lamps, fishing tackle, quilts and art. Each booth sports a unique style of antiques and collectibles from a variety of time periods.

Then and Now

I was greeted by manager Penny Landis Tadsen who filled me in on the history of this grand building. The building was originally built in the early 1900s and was occupied by Stiefels Department Store, which sold ladies and gentlemen’s clothing as well as a few home goods. Through the years it changed hands several times including the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and JC Penney. Former owners of the antique store include Leroy and Irene Wisel and Scott Miller. In 2005 the late Melody Willibey bought Then and Now and brought with her a good deal of antique knowledge. Her husband Kevin remains the owner.

Then and Now
In February, shoppers are sure to find a special item for Valentine’s Day. The dealers have readied their booths with items that will certainly delight your Valentine. Red shoes, red hats and red dresses were the highlights of my antique adventure. If you are looking for vintage clothing for a themed party, Then and Now Antiques has a wide variety of pieces to choose from for both men and women.
Then and Now
The two German bisque porcelain piano babies stood out to me. These babies were popular pieces manufactured in Germany in the early 1900s.The most famous manufacturer, and likely the best, was Gebrüder Heubach of Lichten, Germany. Piano Babies remained popular up until World War I and are highly sought after collectibles today.
Then and Now
The trend in the Farmhouse style has really taken off in the United States. It has a Hygge flair to it that embodies a sense of coziness and home. Adding a few antique or vintage accessories to your home will give it that warm feeling we can all take comfort in during these winter months.

In short, if you are looking for antique or vintage items to accessorize your rooms with, Then and Now Antiques is the place to shop. The wide selection and reasonable prices make it a must stop while visiting Steuben County.
