The Store at The Mill District – Rustic, Romantic Charm
Located a few miles away from downtown Fremont is the Mill District. It’s not an actual municipal district of Fremont, but a property that is used for private events and lodging.
Walking through the property you might think you were walking through a tiny hidden away town fill of lush green grass surrounded by agricultural fields. A romantic vibe permeates this rustic property, and it’s an incredible venue for an unforgettable wedding experience. In addition to the banquet hall and event building, there are a couple of buildings on the property that can be rented for overnight stays. One of the original buildings on the property, built of stone and timber, is The Store at The Mill District, which we’ll focus on in this article.
Within the store’s cozy historic building you’ll find distinctive gift items, home décor, bridal gifts, and clothing and accessories. The building’s rustic interior, boutique items, and product placement prowess, provide visitors a dynamic, vibrant, upscale, decorator feel that could easily be showcased in an interior design magazine. Even though the experience at The Mill District is upscale, the store carries a wide variety of price points, so if you’re just stopping by, you can probably find a quick gift for yourself or a friend or family member. They are expanding their offerings to include The Mill District branded items, so visitors can pick up a souvenir of their visit.
The Mill District is owned by Jourdan Thompson and her husband James. Jourdan is a third-generation small business retail owner. Her mother and grandparents have deep roots in downtown Angola’s commercial historic district. Born and raised in Angola, Thompson eventually moved to Indianapolis and lived there for six years. She and her husband purchased The Mill District property which was formerly known as “The Old Mill Village” in Fremont.
Two years ago, the shop opened in November and December for the holiday season. After a successful season they decided to open the shop during the wedding season, which is generally May through October. Now, the public can come enjoy the property during the earlier hours of the day, since the weddings generally occur in the later afternoon. When the shop is open the property is open to explore. With two years of business under their belt, the Thompson’s are already looking to possibly expand holiday offerings to include another building on the property.
The Mill District and The Store at The Mill District each have their own Facebook and Instagram pages where you can find out more about products and services.
