Antique Stores Trail in Steuben County
Explore our wonderful antique stores including Homestead Antiques, a Wild Hare Antique Mall, Then and Now, MJ’s Uptown Antiques, Remember When and Through the Years.
A Wild Hare Antique Mall
The next stop on the Trail is just down the road. A Wild Hare Antique Mall sits at the edge of downtown Angola. Everything in the store dates to 1970 or older with an emphasis on mid-century items. Owner Kim Border started the business in what used to be her grandfather’s car dealership. She along with 10 vendors like to procure unusual items such as a Wheeling La Belle Flow Blue garden seat and jardinière or an old orchard ladder. She reminds everyone to measure their space before they start looking for items to fill it.
Then and Now
Stop number three is Then and Now. The large 40 plus vendor showcase is filled from basement to attic with an eclectic array of treasures from vintage clothing and collectibles to signs and glassware. You just never know what you might find hidden away in one of the booths.
MJ’s Uptown Antiques
Just across the street and up the block is MJ’s Uptown Antiques. Owner Marilyn Baker previously had a shop near Lake George. Her four levels are nonstop with a little something for everyone from very vintage, to primitive, to shabby. It’s a one person show, though she does take about 20 percent of her merchandise on consignment.
Remember When
A quick drive north brings collectors to Remember When located in the Walgreen’s plaza. With more than 20 vendor stalls collectors have another great opportunity to explore the hidden wonders of 101 Lakes Country.
Through the Years
The final stop on the Antique Stores Trail takes collectors out of Angola and down the road a few miles to Fremont. Through the Years is owned by the godfather of 101 Lakes Country Antiquing, Leroy Wisel, who’s been in the business 53 years.
His shop with an old West edifice specializes primarily in primitives with a little bit of everything else. He carries a lot of furniture and some great toys, but not many collectibles. He says when it comes to durability antiques are the way to go.
Area antique store owners will buy a limited amount of merchandise from private citizens. They all stress if there’s something a collector would like, but can’t find, they’ll try to get it right here.
Cruise to the Monument
The Cruise to the Monument in downtown Angola offers something for everyone. If you’re a car enthusiast, you will love walking around the downtown and checking out the variety of classic cars.
