JOIN US EVERY THURSDAY AT 2:00 P.M. FOR STORY TIME!

Bring the little ones to the Nature Center to enjoy some stories with the Naturalist who will also share fun and educational props along the way.

POKAGON STATE PARK WILL BE CLOSED FOR THE DEER REDUCTION HUNT FROM 11/17/19 AT 6PM UNTIL 11/20/2019 AT 8AM

Saturday, November 23

 

10:00 a.m.—NOON.—CCC SCAVENGER HUNT: Learn all about the Civilian Conservation Corp—the boys who built the park—as you walk through where their camp once stood.  Solve the riddles and look for specific locations along the way.  Find all of the places and earn a prize!

2:00 p.m.— WILD ABOUT TURKEYS: Come to the Nature Center to learn about the Wild Turkey! Then test your bird brain with a fun game to see how well you know these beautiful creatures.    

Sunday, November 24

 8:30 a.m.—EARLY MORNING BIRD WALK:   On this Naturalist-guided hike, search for native birds and other wildlife.  Meet at the Potawatomi Inn Sun Deck to begin the 90-minute walk.  Binoculars provided.

10:30 a.m.—CORN: THE A-MAIZE-ING CROP: It’s National Corn Day!  Join us at the Nature Center to learn about the history of corn and how it made an impact on Indiana. The Naturalist will also help you make a corn husk doll to take home.  

2:00 p.m.— BOOMERS ON THE TRAIL: This hike is for the Baby Boomers (age 50+) who want to get out on the trail and meet like-minded people.  Meet at the Nature Center to begin the walk.

Event Description:

Take a step back in time to see how glaciers shaped the landscape of Pokagon State Park.  Meet at the Potawatomi Inn main entrance to begin the 2.2, moderately-rugged hike along Trail 3 where we will ascend Hell’s Point, the park’s highest point.

The Saddle Barn is now open weekends 9a-6p, weather permitting. The last ride of the day leaves at 5p.

Park-Inn Movies at the Potawatomi Inn Inside Pokagon State Park. Bring your blanket or lawn chair to the lawn overlooking Lake James. Admission is free to Inn Guests, Campground Guests and with paid adminission to Pokagon State Park. ( Weather Permitting ).

 

Hoosier Quest State Park Pin and Patch Program.

Stop by the Nature Center any time and learn how you can earn a patch or pin! Have fun exploring all of Indiana’s State Parks by collecting a unique pin from each property, or work toward earning a patch with a variety of activities.

Hell’s Point Challenge.

Put your endurance to the test by completing the Hell’s Point Challenge – a hiking route that links 8 miles of Pokagon’s trails! The challenge begins at the Nature Center where you can pick up a map of the route. Along the way, photograph 6 specific way-points. Show the photos to the Nature Center staff when you finish and receive a sticker & water bottle ( while supplies last ).

Woodland Window Wish List :

The Nature Center always welcomes donations of bird seed, suet cakes, unsalted peanuts, grape jelly, sugar, peanut butter, cornmeal, flour, and shortening.
