Clear Lake

Clear Lake in Steuben County is one of the clearest lakes in the state, making it a popular destination for camping, water skiing and fishing. The lake is bordered by dense forests, providing a scenic backdrop for those looking to relax and enjoy the outdoors. There are several campgrounds in the area, which are perfect for bringing the family to. Fishing is also a popular pastime at Clear Lake and anglers can expect to find walleye, northern pike and rainbow trout in abundance. Feel like relaxing? No problem, sunbathing by the gentle waves is a popular option as well. No matter what your interests are, Clear Lake is sure to offer something for everyone.

Crooked Lake

Steuben County’s Crooked Lake covers 802 acres and is a beautiful lakefront. The lakefront vacation rentals are the perfect place to stay while enjoying all the lake has to offer including fishing, boating and swimming. Pokagon State Park is also nearby and offers hiking, camping and picnicking opportunities. The state park also has a nature center and an amphitheater that hosts summer concerts. Hamilton Lake

Pleasant Lake

Originally called Nipcondish, meaning “gentle waters,” Pleasant Lake is another lake located in a small town in Steuben County. Fishermen who come here experience a variety of fish from bluegill to largemouth bass. There are also many hiking trails in the area and plenty of activities for visitors to enjoy. Potawatomi Inn Beach

This beach is located on Lake James in Pokagon State Park in front of the Potawatomi Inn. The beach has a volleyball net and is a place to take part in the many water activities Pokagon State Park has to offer. Rent a pontoon, paddleboat or fishing boat to explore the lake. If you’re looking for a place to stay overnight or for a longer vacation, the historic Potawatomi Inn is a great option. It is family friendly and offers many different activities and amenities for families to enjoy during their stay. Don’t forget to grab a bite to eat after your beach day either in the inn itself or at one of the many nearby restaurants. 

Pokagon Main Beach

Yet another option on Lake James is Pokagon State Park’s main beach. The beach is a spacious and sandy spot perfect for a day of family fun and provides a great spot for sunbathing, playing games, or just relaxing in the shade. The beach itself is wide and sandy, with plenty of room for swimming, building sand castles, or just wading in the water. There are also several picnic tables located near the beach, providing a great spot for a lunchtime break. The nearby snack shop also sells ice-cream and other treats.
