Toboggan opens day after Thanksgiving
A tradition born nearly 90 years ago continues to this day at Pokagon State Park in Angola. A ride down the 1,780-foot toboggan has delighted young and old alike for decades. The dual-lane tracks are refrigerated, so it doesn’t even need snow to go!
Opening day is Friday, Nov. 29. Normal operating hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with extended weekday hours during winter break. Take a thrilling ride during special weekday hours Monday, Dec. 23, 2024-Friday, Jan. 3, 2025. You can also enjoy the state’s only refrigerated toboggan on Martin Luther King Day and Presidents’ Day. Outside of opening day, holidays and winter break, the toboggan is not open on weekdays.
Each toboggan rents for $20 per hour and holds up to four people. (The price is subject to change without notice.) The standard gate fee of $7 per Indiana car and $9 per out-of-state vehicle will be assessed. Guests are required to wear gloves while riding. Children are welcome to ride as long as they are old enough to follow instructions. If the temperature drops to 0 degrees, the toboggan will close. No video equipment or cameras are allowed on the toboggan. The park accepts cash, checks and Visa/Mastercard. No carry-in food is allowed in the toboggan area or upper/lower parking lots. Find snacks and beverages at the nearby warming center, which also has restrooms.
After you’ve spent the day enjoying your winter adventure, spend the night at the 140-room Potawatomi Inn overlooking Lake James. Enjoy the indoor pool, sauna, two restaurants, game room, gift shop and fitness room. Cabins also are available for rent just steps from the toboggan.

Pleasant Lake Days
Everyone was sitting at table cloth covered picnic tables under a pavilion so we sat down to enjoy...
Pokagon State Park
Pokagon is also home to the state’s only refrigerated toboggan. Open weekends the day after Thanksgiving through the last weekend in February, the toboggan is a great family activity.
