Donating Time and Talents to Mask Exposure for Vulnerable Senior Citizens in Angola
Amidst a turbulent time for business and urge for safe Social Distancing, small business owners and employees are taking this as an opportunity to give back to the community in Angola. One of these, Mrs. Lee Ann Snyder, has started a collective initiative to sew and donate masks to vulnerable senior citizens in Angola nursing homes and has shared a video showing just how to do it!
Unmasking At-Home Activities
Inspired by Deaconess Health, tutorial videos on creating face masks at home at low cost, Mrs. Snyder connected with several other community members up to the challenge of sewing and distributing these masks to Cameron Hospital. More community members are offering their time and skill in creating these masks and assisting with donation drop-offs.
Supporting Local Retailers
Much of her fabric purchases have been made at local retail shop, JoannFabric and Craft Store, which has been named an essential goods store during this time. Joann Fabric and Craft Store not only has a great selection of materials for mask making at home, but they are currently providing kits for this purpose for free with a limit of 5 per customer. Currently, Lee Ann is taking advantage of the sale on flannel at Joann Fabric for this round of masks! Joann Fabric is also a donation spot for the masks.
Promoting Safety and Security for High Risk Citizens
Local hospitals and health providers appreciate this effort. DIY masks for lower risk spaces help protect vulnerable citizens of Angola, while reservingthe FDA cleared masks for high-risk areas of hospitals such as the Emergency Room.
Jack of All Trades
Mrs. Snyder is the Owner of the Hair Center in Angola and a new addition to the town, West of the Monument Creations. She saw this as an opportunity to use her skills and love for crafting to do something beneficial for residents of the community that are at-risk or immune compromised.
