Soaring into our 10 Year Angola Balloons Aloft Anniversary!

The event that everyone marks their calendars for each year is coming soon on July 12 and 13.

The annual Angola Balloons Aloft brings thousands of spectators each year to see the mystical and elegant balloons as well as the fun attractions and activities at Angola High School.

This year marks Angola Balloons Aloft’s 10-year anniversary. It has grown each year and allows visitors to experience the sights and sounds of huge balloons ascending into the sky by the hand of skilled pilots.

Along with over 30 different competition balloons, there will be a mix of vendors and activities such as a kids fun zone, Meet the Fleet, Science Central and Soarin’ Hawk Raptor Rehab and others! Angola Balloons Aloft is a special time where visitors experience the culture, uniqueness and pride of Steuben County.

The Art of Flight

Last year we spoke with Dave, a special shape balloon pilot from Illinois. He has flown more than 18 balloons and four special shape balloons. He likes flying and maneuvering the balloons through the sky with his crew who help guide him along the way and help him land safely. Upon one of Dave’s landings, he showed bystanders how he takes care of his balloons after landing to keep it in tip-top condition.

Supporting Community

Events like these are important for our county because they are community-focused and capture the heart and spirit of residents and visitors. June Julian, Executive Director of the Steuben Country Tourism Bureau says “Supporting events like Angola Balloons Aloft are important to the Bureau. The attendance of local residents and many visitors means more business for hotels, restaurants and local attractions.”
